    National Navajo Code Talkers Day

This graphic was created in celebration of National Navajo Code Talker’s Day, created August 12, 2024. In 1942, the Marine Corps enlisted 29 Navajo men, utilizing their native language to develop a special code for sensitive information to be sent and deciphered during the battles of the Pacific in World War II, which was virtually impossible for the Japanese to break. As the war went on, it is estimated that more than 400 Navajos were trained in this code. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic by Lance Cpl. Casey Bonestroo)
