U.S. Navy graphic created for the George Washington Carrier Strike Group Far East Deployment 2024. The design was created to celebrate the return of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) to Yokosuka, Japan as the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed naval force’s aircraft carrier. 241022-N-QA070-1001 (Oct. 22, 2024) U.S. Navy logo created for the George Washington Carrier Strike Group. The logo utilizes design elements such as symmetry and depth.

TIP OF THE SPEAR: As the U.S. Navy’s only Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan (FDNF-J) aircraft carrier, USS George Washington (CVN 73) is often referred to as the “tip of the spear.” Spears are weapons that can be used to strike a target from a greater distance. As the premier FDNF-J aircraft carrier, George Washington and her crew can be called upon at any time in response to any conflict in the U.S. Pacific Fleet area of operations.

SPEAR: The spear itself is modelled after a Japanese Hei-sankaku yari to celebrate the culture of Japan as USS George Washington makes the transit to her new homeport in Yokosuka, Japan.

RED, WHITE, and BLUE: The overall color scheme references the colors of the U.S. national flag. In addition, the red circle references the rising sun of the Japanese national flag. This comes together to symbolize the partnership between the U.S. and Japan as allies.

13 SIX-POINTED STARS: The 13 stars call back to the U.S. Colonial flag, representing the first states in the newly formed U.S. They are also the same, six-sided stars from Washington’s Headquarters flag made during the American Revolution.

SHIPS and AIRCRAFT: The CVN 73, Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, F/A-18E Super Hornet, and MH-60S Seahawk silhouettes represent the George Washington Carrier Strike Group together as the “tip of the spear.”
