A photo illustration created for the anniversary of the end of the Bougainville Campaign on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan Nov. 14, 2024. 3d Marine Division played a pivotal role in the Battle of Bougainville, landing on November 1, 1943, and advancing inland to confront entrenched enemy forces. Through their success on Bougainville, 3d Marine Division helped cement the Marine Corps' reputation for amphibious warfare and its ability to operate in austere jungle environments.
