Honoring those who came before us: Prior to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune becoming the renowned amphibious base it is today, this area’s earliest inhabitants included Native Americans and eventually rural farming communities that grew tobacco and harvested timber. Historians have referred to the indigenous Neusiok tribe as one of its first with a population of approximately 1000. This graphic was created using Adobe Illustrator on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, May 20, 2024. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic by Cpl. Loriann Dauscher)
