    115th Fighter Wing 70th Anniversary nose/tail art

    115th Fighter Wing 70th Anniversary nose/tail art

Colonel Erik Peterson, commander of the 115th Fighter Wing, Truax Field, Wisconsin requested nose and tail art to put on a 115th FW F-16 Fighting Falcon in honor of the base’s 70th Anniversary. Once the art was approved the falcon head was painted on the fuselage and the Wisconsin mural was painted on the tail. The falcon represents the F-16 Fighting Falcon and its mouth is open and feathers in motion to represent the bases readiness to react and the wing’s constant mission to move forward. The tail mural encompasses different aspects and details that can be found in Madison, Wisconsin. The capitol building and Madison skyline represents the location of the base and its intent to protect its city, state, and nation. The drawn bow symbolizes the constant readiness of the wing, the lightning bolt represents the quick response of the unit, the broadhead indicates the ability to penetrate and bring down large prey and all of these elements are encompassed within the home state of the base. The wing and feathers in the background pull the tail and fuselage together giving the illusion of the jet as a falcon in its entirety. The three aircraft in the top right corner (F-51, F-16, and F-35) represent the past, present, and future of the 115th Fighter Wing.
