Capt. Paul Schlise, Commander, Task Group 73.1 and Republic of Indonesia Navy Lt. The ships steamed in formation prior to a photo exercise during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise Indonesia 2013. More than 1,000 sailors and Marines are participating CARAT Indonesia 2013 along with U.S. Navy ships: the salvage and recovery vessel USNS Safeguard (T-ARS 50) with embarked Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1, Tortuga, and Momsen. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
