Former Indiana National Guard Spc. Jacob Kokotkiewicz, with the 38th Combat Aviation Brigade, was awarded the Indiana Distinguished Service Cross in Shelbyville, Ind., Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, for his heroic actions on Aug. 13, 2011, when more than 40 people were reportedly injured and seven killed when a concert stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Kokotkiewicz, an Indianapolis native, applied a tourniquet to a wounded child and performed CPR on another unconscious person. “I wasn't expecting anything; it was just the right thing to do,” said Kokotkiewicz.
