Lance Cpl. Matthew Lareau, a plane captain with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), assists Capt. Owen Smith in to the cockpit of an F/A-18 Hornet. Painted below the cockpit is the name of former commanding officer, Maj. Joe Foss, who took command of the squadron 16 days after its creation July 1, 1943. Under Foss, an ace and a Medal of Honor recipient, the squadron earned the nickname, Joe's Jokers.
