Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

A new Marine of November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, reaches for the 1st Recruit Training Battalion bell during a motivational run Oct. 3, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Ringing the bell lets everyone know the new Marines have completed training and are the next to graduate. The 2.3-mile run was the first chance most of the attending families and friends had to see their new Marine in more than 12 weeks. Mike and November Companies are scheduled to graduate Oct. 4, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
