In an usual site for the middle of any day at the Bolling Commisary, a shopping cart stands alone amidst a vacant parking lot following the commissary's closure at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Tuesday, Oct. 1. Bolling Commissary management posted the following notice on its door: "To our valued patrons: Due to the U.S. Federal Government Shutdown your Bolling Commissary is closed. The situation is expected to continue until government funding becomes available. Commissary customers are asked to check their local military installation news outlets and commissaries.com to monitor the operational status of their stores. Customers may also monitor the DOD website, http:www.defense.com, for any breaking news that affects service members and government civilians."
