The Marine Barracks at Beirut, Lebanon, was home to about 300 U.S. service members. On Oct. 23,1983, a suicide bomber driving a truck rammed into the barracks with 12,000 pounds of high explosives detonating one of the largest non-nuclear bombings in history. Of the 300 service members residing at the barracks, 241 were killed because of the blast and injuries sustained from the damage.
