Recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, warm up their abdominal muscles before beginning an obstacle course Nov. 6, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits warm up before physical fitness sessions to prevent injuries. This course is one of many training tools used to condition recruits mentally and physically. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate Dec. 13, 2013. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
