AT SEA (July 2)--A third class cadet climbs up the shroud, which stretches from the top of the mast down to the vessels sides on the Coast Guard Barque Eagle. This is the only way the crew or the cadets can reach all of the sails along the mast. They climb as high as 147 feet in all weather conditions to reach the main royal sail on the top of the mast. To maneuver the Eagle while sailing, everyone must work together to handle more than 22,000 square feet of sail and five miles of rigging. USCG photo by PA3 Dana Warr
