SEATTLE, Wash. (July 3) --- The Marine Safety and Security Team 91101 guidon held by Petty Officer 3rd Class David J. Vaninwagen. The MSST is a domestic mobile unit that possess specialized training and capabilities to perform a broad spectrum of port safety and security operations. They are modeled after the Coast Guard's Port Security Units (PSUs) and Law Enforcement Detachments (LEDETs). They were established to protect military load-outs, enforce security zones, defend critical waterside facilitiesin strategic ports, stop illegal activities, such as narcotics trafficking or illegal migrants, and provide a modest level of shore side protection.
