LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 24, 2003)--Lt. j.g. Vanessa Martin of Marine Safety Office Los Angeles confers with Los Angeles Port Police Sgt. Rosa Reynoso while California Highway Patrol Officer James Ragle observes in the Joint Operation Center in Los Angeles. The Coast Guard along with Customs, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, Port Police, Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department and California Department opened the Joint Operation Center at the Coast Guard Base March 20. The control center was created to increase the level with which local agencies protect the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The center is scheduled to remain open as long as there is a need.
