NEW YORK, New York (March 21, 2003)--A 25-foot Coast Guard boat patrols the New York Harbor with a New York Police Department Harbor Unit boat demonstrating interagency cooperation under Operation Liberty Shield, the Department of Homeland Security's national plan to ensure the safety of ports waterways and facilities Mar. 21, 2003. The Coast Guard's new 25-foot boats are part of the "Defender Class" boats that will replace nearly 300 non-standard shore based boats and provide a standardized platform for the Coast Guard's new Maritime Safety and Security Teams (MSST's) which were established as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
