KODIAK, Alaska ? Steven Lockwood, a fireman with the Integrated Support Command (ISC) Fire Department here, takes a sample of a mysterious white powder for testing during a hazardous material (HAZMAT) response drill held here Wednesday. The drill tested the ISC fire department?s HAZMAT response capability in the frequently harsh Alaska environment. The drill participants had to respond to a report of an unknown white powder at the base exchange here. The participants had to establish an effective decontamination area outside in 30-degree weather with winds reaching more than 40-knots. The ISC Fire Department is the largest fire department in the Coast Guard with more than 35 members that are responsible for fire suppression, emergency medical treatment and rescue at the Coast Guard Base, airport and the surrounding community here.(Official Coast Guard Photo by Petty Officer First Class Paul Roszkowski)
