The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk approaches the pier at Naval Air Station North Island for the first time in 10 years. The ship is returning to the San Diego after operating in Yokosuka, Japan, and will be replaced by USS George Washington as the Navy's only carrier operating from Japan in September. Kitty Hawk is back in the U.S. mainland for a scheduled decommissioning in early 2009.
