Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on Isla San Cristobal, GALAPAGOS ISLAND (Jan. 25)--Members of the Coast Guard Gulf Strike Team and local contractors work aboard the Jessica, trying to seal port side fuel tanks for possible refloating of the vessel. Large swells made oil removal operations dangerous as seawater washed over the deck, soaking clean-up workers. The tank vessel Jessica ran hard aground in the Galapagos archipelago Jan. 16, spilling about 200,000 gallons of oil into a pristine environment known for unique wildlife and aquatic species.
