San Juan, Puerto Rico (Nov. 18) -- The 650-foot cargo ship Sergo Zakariadze grounded outside the entrance to San Juan port. The ship was carrying 17,000 tons of cement dust when it ran aground Nov. 18, 1999. In the background is a Old San Juan and the national historic site of El Morro, a fort built nearly 400 years ago to protect the Spanish from enemy invaders. Once the fuel was removed from the vessel, a jack-up barge equipped with a crane was brought in to begin the transfer of cargo from the holdsinto bulkcarrier vessels. USCG photo by PA2 Angel Deimler
