Pascagoula, Miss. (May 24, 2007) - On a tour of the Coast Guard's National Security Cutter, Admiral Thad Allen, commandant U.S. Coast Guard, Bob Stevens and Ronald Sugar, chief executive officers of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, inspect the Coast Guard's newest cutter which is being built at the Northrop Grumman Ship Systems ship yard here, today. The National Security Cutter will be more than 418 feet in length and crewed by 148 officers and enlisted personnel. The new cutters with their greater abilities are slated to replace the Coast Guard's ageing 378-foot Hamilton class high endurance cutters; eight new cutters will replace the 12 ageing 378-foot cutters.
