On April 25, 2002, a ship carrying 290 Haitian migrants ran aground on the uninhabited Flamingo Cay in the southern Bahamas after 11 days at sea. At least 14 died of dehydration by the time the Coast Guard ships Farallon and Manitou's small boats and helicopter reached the scene.
