A Coast Guard helicopter from the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) from Jacksonville, Fla., locates a suspected drug runner near Barnegat Light, N.J. HITRON forward deploys armed helicopters to high threat drug trafficking and high risk security areas. The Coast Guard follows a continuum of force is such in law enforcement situations: the helo crew will first order suspects to stop via a bullhorn announcement; if they do not respond, bullets are fired across the front of the bow. If that fails to stop the vessel, bullets are then fired at the boat's engines.
