Commander Beverly Kelley, commanding officer of the Medium Endurance Cutter Northland, works at the chart table on the cutter's bridge during a patrol. Kelley was became the first female commanding officer of a Coast Guard cutter when she who took command of the Coast Guard Cutter Cape Newagen in 1979.
