PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- The MK 110 57mm gun was fired from the bow of the Coast Guard's first National Security Cutter, Bertholf, Feb. 11, 2008 during sea trials. This was the first time that this gun was fired from a ship in the United States. During the trials, extensive testing of propulsion, electrical, damage control, and combat systems were conducted. This culminated in the successful completion of a four-hour full power trial, standardization trials, as well as 57 mm gun and close-in weapon systems (CIWS) testing.
