WILMINGTON, N.C., - Rear Adm. Fred M. Rosa, Jr., Commander 5th Coast Guard District, presents Samuel R. Jones, 84, with the Purple Heart during a ceremony aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence in Wilmington, N.C., Thursday, March 13, 2008. Jones, a Selma, N.C., native, received the award for injuries he sustained during a torpedo attack on the USS Cavalier during World War II as it transited from Luzon, Philippines to Leyte, Philippines.
