An HC-130 Hercules airplane crewmember from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak lumbers out of the frigid bay in the midst of a snow flurry after successfully completing the survival suit portion of annual aircrew wet drill training Nov. 14, 2008. The required training for helicopter and airplane crews is a review of land and water survival techniques and survival equipment. The training is similar to that taught to commercial fishermen who may be forced to abandon ship in Alaskan waters. As rescuers in Alaska, Coast Guardsmen may also find themselves in a similar life or death situation. The training also includes a refresher on flares and signaling devices.
