Coast Guard Cutter Forward conducts law enforcement training while at sea

ATLANTIC OCEAN-Coast Guard Ensign Leslie Hunt demonstrates law enforcement tactics onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Forward during an Africa Partnership Station (APS) mission May 26, 2011.

The Forward is the primary operational APS platform in 2011, and will be working with our African partner nations to conduct professional exchanges in many areas, including seamanship, search and rescue operations, environmental stewardship, maritime awareness, law enforcement, medical readiness and navigation. Roughly (two thirds) of the crew participated in the use of force training, which included boarding team member tactics such as kicks, punches, stuns and take downs. Six Liberian Coast Guard members onboard during the Forward-s APS patrol also participated in the training.

-Were teaching our crew law enforcement principles and tactics and hopefully the Liberian Coast Guard members can bring that knowledge and experience back to their home country and implement it into the framework for their law enforcement program,? said Coast Guard Ensign Leslie Hunt, the Cutter Forward-s law enforcement officer.
