LOS ANGELES - Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles rescue crewmembers and emergency medical personnel help four boaters rescued from their sunken boat at around 9:30 p.m., Dec. 6, 2011.
The boaters were in a 16-foot recreational boat approximately 13 miles north east of Catalina Island when they hailed the Coast Guard over an emergency radio channel.
Watchstanders at Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach used the Rescue 21 communication system to pinpoint the location of the boaters. The boaters activated an electronic positioning indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), which allowed watchstanders direct a rescue helicopter crew to their position.
All boaters were safely recovered.
