    SAN FRANCISCO - The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf, homeported at Coast Guard Island, Alameda, Calif., transits out of the San Francisco Bay and into the Pacific Ocean as it starts a deployment, Friday, March 9, 2012. The Bertholf is the first National Security Cutter and is one of the flagships of the modern day Coast Guard along with the USCGC Waesche and the soon to be commissioned Stratton.
