The words "el jefe" meaning the boss in Spanish are printed on the name patch of Sgt. Carlos Canez. Canez, often referred to as el jefe by his Marines, led a convoy of more than 50 vehicles and 100 Marines during a refuel and replenishment point retrograde mission in al-Jazirah desert. The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) support squadron spent multiple days convoying from RRP San Francisco. The father of two is a Yuma, Ariz., native and is currently on his third deployment to Iraq and plans to attend drill instructor school upon completion of his deployment.
