SAN DIEGO - Crewmembers aboard the 378-foot Coast Guard Cutter Sherman discuss the day of drills scheduled for the cutter by the Afloat Training Group San Diego for Tailored Ship's Training Availability (TSTA), an intensive training period designed to develop cutter crews performance in shipboard operations and emergency procedures, Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, off the coast of San Diego. The ATG is comprised of Navy and Coast Guard personnel who train, evaluate and certify Coast Guard cutter crews to ensure the cutter meets the three primary objectives of the fleet training program: proficiency in applicable Coast Guard and Navy mission areas; proficiency in evolutions which are essential to the safe operation of cutters under adverse/hostile conditions; and the ability to sustain training/readiness levels over the long term through effective use of certified cutter on board training teams.
