HONOLULU - The crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau pulls up to its mooring at Coast Guard Base Honolulu Monday, December 31, 2012 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The 43-year-old cutter houses the crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Jarvis. The crew will maintain all the roles and responsibilities of the cutter it is replacing, including search and rescue, protection of natural resources, and law enforcement. The Coast Guard's 378-foot Hamilton-class cutters are scheduled to be replaced by the newer, modern 418-foot National Security Cutters. These new vessels will perform the same missions with updated technology and new living areas for crewmembers.
