Michael Mugaku Zimmerman demonstrates the zazen mediatation posture for a portrait at Two Arrows Zen Center, Salt Lake City, May 10, 2013. As a former judge for 15 years, he turned to zen as a way to ground himself while dealing with his belated wife's cancer struggle. Zimmerman was ordained as a monk in 2003, and received Dharma Transmission in 2006, whereby he becomes the student is seen as an equal in the master's eyes and is added to the chain of zen masters up to that point.
