Sgt. 1st Class Jason Syriac, a military police officer with the North Carolina National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, stands in the motor pool behind his unit’s armory in Charlotte, N.C., with his dog, Rosco, Jan. 11. Rosco is a post-traumatic stress disorder companion animal that helps Syriac, a two-time Iraq war veteran, cope with the disorder and helps him recover. Companion animals can help service members with PTSD relax and re-integrate back into society. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Staff Sgt.
