An excavator operated by a civilian volunteer who specializes in road construction, cuts deep into woods on the edge of the mudslide disaster in Oso, Wash. The road will be used to allow easier access to the site for search and rescuers from the Washington National Guard, civilian volunteers county, federal and state agencies. More than 70 Air and Army Washington State Guard members are actively engaged in search and recovery efforts. (Washington National Guard photo by: Sgt. 1st Class Neal I. Mitchell, 122d PAOC WA ANG)
