More than 25 media representatives attended the Exercise Flintlock 2014 closing ceremony in Niamey, Niger March 9, 2014. Brig. U.S. Africa Command Deputy Commander U.S. Marine Lt. Gen. Steven A. Hummer and U.S. Army Brig. Gen. James B. Linder, commander of Special Operations Command Africa, along with Niger’s Minister of Defense answered questions and addressed concerns facing the region during a post-ceremony press conference. Flintlock exercises began in 2005 and have grown to become a global endeavor spanning multiple countries, languages and cultures. Flintlock is an African-planned, coordinated and executed multi-lateral exercise that seeks to further the training and counterterrorism capabilities and proficiencies of participating nations across the Trans-Sahara region, while fostering collaborative communication and coordination skills.
