Sailors aboard the mine countermeasure ship USS Champion (MCM 4) finish mooring procedures after the ship pulls into it's new homeport at Naval Base San Diego. Both USS Champion and USS Devastator (MCM 6) arrived at Naval Base San Diego after participating in search efforts last night for the HH-60 Seahawk helicopter that went down May 19 off the coast of Southern California and Mexico. USS Pioneer (MCM 9) will also arrive in San Diego later today. Pioneer remains on station to aid in search efforts using its towed-array sonar and mine-neutralization vehicle (MNV). The MCMs are part of Commander, Mine Countermeasure Squadron and are shifting homeports from Ingleside, Texas. The homeport shift will bring the Navy significant cost savings as part of the Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jennifer S.
