U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Kelvin Maldonado, a paratrooper assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, assembles a modified and portable Tactical Airspace Integration System (TAIS) during Joint Operational Access Exercise (JOAX) 13-03 at Camp Mackall, N.C., June 22, 2013. JOAX is designed to enhance cohesiveness between U.S. Army, Air Force and allied personnel, allowing the services an opportunity to properly execute large-scale heavy equipment and troop movement. The 2nd Brigade Combat Team's brigade aviation element modified the existing TAIS equipment in an effort to create an "air picture" over the battle space within minutes after an airborne assault into an austere environment.
