Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Saul Martinez poses for a selfie with the staff from Craig Joint Theater Hospital, Bagram Airf Field, Afghanistan, during Operation Proper Exit, May 28. The program is a Troop’s First Foundation initiative that allows service members who are severely injured in the line of duty to return to the battlefield and leave on their own terms. In 2007, Martinez was in the lead vehicle of a convoy in Salman Pak, Iraq, when his truck was hit with a projectile. As a result he became a bilateral amputee with massive tissue loss on his back and traumatic brain injury. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Lyndsey Prax)
