Two MV-22B Ospreys with Marine Medium Tiltroter Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepare to take off from the USS Makin Island flight deck to return National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) personnel to Midway Atoll, Hawaii, during the MEU’s WESTPAC 14-2 deployment. The recovery of NOAA personnel was executed because of the threat of hurricane Iselle, the first hurricane to strike the Hawaii islands in more than two decades, which threatened the safety of the researchers.
