National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) researchers head toward the hangar bay of the USS San Diego after being dropped off by an MV-22B Osprey from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prior to departure to Midway Atoll during the MEU’s WESTPAC 14-2 deployment Aug. 8, 2014. Marines and sailors from the 11th MEU and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group team recovered 11 personnel from three isolated islands more than 900 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii and directly in the path of Hurricane Iselle. MEU aircraft transported the researchers to Midway Atoll where they could seek shelter from the storm. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Laura Y. Raga/Released)
