Republic of Korea Marines prepare to take defensive positions against U.S. Marines during a patrol training event July 22 during Korean Marine Exchange Program 14-12 at the 1st Republic of Korea Marine Division Base, Pohang, South Korea. KMEP is a regularly scheduled bilateral training exercise which allows U.S. and ROK Marines to work together and familiarize themselves with each other’s tactics techniques and procedures. The participating U.S. Marines are with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion currently assigned to Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program. The ROK Marines are with 7th Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 1st ROK Marine Division.
