The Coast Guard Reserve Officers Association (R.O.A.) awarded the 2013 Admiral Russell R. Waesche Award to the 1st Coast Guard District for category two (with over 600 selected reservists)

The Waesche Award, presented annually by the R.O.A., recognizes the Coast Guard District judged to be the most effective in building and maintaining reserve readiness. The award is named in honor of Adm. Russell R. Waesche, who served in the Coast Guard from 1904-1946 and founded the Coast Guard Reserve during WWII.
