Sharon Fitzgerald-Foster, mother of the late 1st Lt. Almar Fitzgerald, stands in honor of the National Anthem during the 9/11 First Responders Remembrance Memorial at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center Sept. 11. Almar, an officer in the Marine Corps, was killed in the action in Iraq in 2006. “Today was very touching. It brought tears to my eyes today,” said Foster. “There are times I can talk about him and be ok and other times I can’t.” Almar joined the Marines to gain experience in hopes of being a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in the future.
