Sgt. Tiffany Nielsen-Nowakowski, a drill instructor with 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., motivates Philip Samoylovich, a poolee from Recruiting Substation Burlington, to exit a bus during Recruiting Station Seattle’s annual west side pool function at Foster High School in Tukwila, Wash., Sept. 13, 2014. During the event, Washington-based recruiters teamed with drill instructors to physically and mentally prepare enlistees for boot camp. The enlistees, part of the Marine Corps delayed entry program, are awaiting their ship dates. Nielsen-Nowakowski, 26, is from Ferris, Texas. Samoylovich, 20, is from Bellingham, Wash., and attended Ferndale High School in Ferndale, Wash. He was recruited by Sgt. Justin McKelvey and lost 116 lbs. to enlist in the Marine Corps.
