While aboard the USS San Diego (LPD 22), U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Juan F. Alvarez, a platoon sergeant with Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (BLT 2/1), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and McAllen, Texas native, provide instruction on the firing control system for M1A1 Abrams tanks, Sept. 14. The USS San Diego is part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
