Col. The Air Cav was originally constituted in 1963 as the 11th Air Assault Aviation Group, consisting of the 227th, 228th and 229th Aviation Battalions, as part of the 11th Air Assault Division at Fort Benning, Ga. Since its inception, the brigade has participated during operations in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Somalia, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and has assisted in humanitarian missions in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, and also provided support to Pakistan in the wake of its devastating earthquakes in 2006.
