Evans joined the Marine Corps in October 2006 and became a drill instructor in March 2014. “I wanted to give back to the Marine Corps what it’s given me and train Marines to carry on the Marine Corps legacy,” said Evans, a 28-year-old native of King, N.C. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
