Airman Mark Alexander, a Sailor assigned to USS Constitution, describes the War of 1812 battle between Old Ironsides and HMS Guerriere during USS Constitution's 2009 Chief Petty Officer Heritage Week Aug. 25 training. More than 150 chief petty officer selects live and train aboard the 211-year-old warship during one of their six CPO induction weeks in order to immerse in naval heritage. Old Ironsides earned her nickname in this, her first battle, when an unknown Sailor noticed shot from HMS Guerriere either bouncing off of or embedding in USS Constitution's hull.
